Alan Vest

Alan Vest

Alan was born in Chicago in 1911.  After moving to South Dakota as a child, he graduated from Augustana College and the University of South Dakota Law School.  Alan came to Sac City to establish the Vest Law Firm in 1938.  He served in the United States Army from 1944-1946 as Chief Prosecutor of the Military Government Court in Bremen, Germany and was involved in the de-Nazification effort.  When he returned to Sac City, he became active in politics and served two terms as State Senator for Carroll, Greene, and Sac Counties.  In 1955, he received the Des Moines Press and Radio Award for the outstanding member of the Iowa Senate from newsmen covering the legislative session.  In 1957, he was elected president pro tempore by the members of the Senate.

While practicing law for 58 years in Sac City, Alan served three terms as Sac County Attorney and developed a practice which included estate planning, probate, real estate, civil litigation, and income tax preparation.  Alan retired from the practice in 1996 and passed away in 2007.

Kirby Vest

Kirby Vest

Kirby was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in 1946 and graduated from Sac City High School.  He received both his undergraduate degree and law degree from Drake University.  After graduating from law school in 1972, he returned to Sac City to practice in the firm of Vest and Mather.  His practice included income tax preparation, real estate, civil litigation, and probate before his death in 1981.

Charles Mather

Charles was born near Laurens, Iowa in 1923.  After serving in World War II, he received his undergraduate degree and law degree from the University of Iowa.  After graduating from law school in 1949, Charles practiced as a sole practitioner before joining Alan Vest in 1963 to establish Vest and Mather Law Firm.  Charles handled probate and estate matters, civil litigation, tax return preparation, and served as county attorney for several years, until his death in 1978.
